A tattoo machine frame is the body of the machine. It holds the other parts together: the drive mechanism, the needle mount and the grip. Its construction affects the machine's balance and how it sits in the artist's hand.
What are frames made of?
Frames are most often made of steel, aluminium or brass. Each material has a different weight. A heavier frame absorbs vibration, while a lighter one is less tiring over a long session. On coil machines the frame is often decorative too: engraved, carved or painted.
Does a client need to know about the machine?
No. Choosing equipment is the artist's job and depends on the style and technique. One machine may be set up for linework and another for shading, for example with lining needles. What matters to the client is the result and a safe procedure.
Safety comes from sterile, single-use supplies for every part that touches the skin. The hygiene rules we follow are part of our studio terms.
