A blind tattoo is a tattoo whose design the client does not know before the session. The artist gets full creative freedom, and the client agrees to see the design only on the day, or even after it is done. It is a sign of trust in a particular artist's style and skill.
How does a blind tattoo work?
Usually the client agrees only the basics with the artist: the placement, an approximate size and sometimes the colour or theme. The artist prepares the rest of the design on their own. At many studios the client can still say no on seeing the design before tattooing. It is always worth agreeing the rules in advance.
Who is a blind tattoo for?
It suits people who know an artist's portfolio well and like their style. It is not a good choice for a first tattoo or for a placement that will always be on show. Events such as a walk-in day with ready-made designs offer a similar thrill.
