A filler is a small design that fills the gaps between larger tattoos. It ties separate pieces into a coherent whole, for example on a sleeve or a leg. Fillers are usually simple motifs: stars, dots, lines, leaves, waves or smoke.
What is a filler for?
A tattoo collection built up over years often mixes styles and sizes. Fillers fill the empty spaces between pieces and bring order to the composition. With them, individual tattoos start to look like a planned project rather than separate stickers.
How to choose a filler
- Match the style and colour to the neighbouring tattoos.
- Leave some skin between designs so the whole piece can breathe.
- Think ahead: a filler can take up space you may want for a bigger piece later.
Fillers are often based on ready-made flash. We explain how to connect existing tattoos into one composition in Planning a tattoo sleeve: a guide. To complete your tattoos, describe them in our booking form.
