Why do we sometimes advise against getting a tattoo?

Does a tattoo artist ever tell a client "no"? At Dirty Lust tattoo shop Warsaw, it happens more often than you might think—and always for a good reason. Discover why honest advice is one of the most important parts of creating a tattoo you'll still love years from now.

By Szymon Godlewski

Every tattoo shop wants new clients. So it might seem like the easiest thing to do is simply agree to every idea that comes up during a consultation.

We see it a little differently. At our tattoo shop Warsaw, there are times when we tell a client, "We don't think that's the best idea." Not because we don't want to do the tattoo. Quite the opposite. We simply want to make sure you'll still be happy with it years from now.

Not Every Design Works Well as a Tattoo

The internet is full of great inspiration. The problem is that not everything that looks amazing on a phone screen will look just as good as a tattoo.

Very small lettering, lots of tiny details or extremely thin lines naturally change over time. That's simply how tattoos age, and it's something worth knowing before making a decision.

Our job is to be honest about it before we even start working on your project.

Sometimes the Size Is the Problem

This is one of the situations we see most often. A client brings us a design full of detail and wants it to fit into a space that's only a few centimetres wide. Technically, it can often be done.

The real question is: will it still look good five or ten years from now?

If we have any doubts, we'll tell you openly. We'd rather spend a few extra minutes talking about the project than have someone regret their decision later.

Your Anatomy Matters

A tattoo isn't a picture hanging on a wall. It's part of your body, and your body moves every day. That's why every design should work with your anatomy. Sometimes moving a design just a few centimetres or adjusting its proportions slightly can make a huge difference to the final result.

Very often, it's those small details that make the biggest difference.

Trends Come and Go

New tattoo trends appear every year. Some become timeless classics, while others disappear almost as quickly as they arrive.

That doesn't mean you shouldn't choose something that's currently popular. But it's always worth asking yourself one simple question:

Will I still like this tattoo ten years from now?

If the answer is yes, you're probably making the right decision.

Honesty Is Part of Our Job

The easiest thing would be to say, "Sure, let's do it."

But we believe a good consultation also means being honest when we think there's a better solution. You won't always hear what you want to hear, but you'll always hear what we genuinely believe is best for your tattoo.

Final Thoughts

A tattoo stays with you for life, so it's worth taking a little extra time to plan it properly and talk through every detail.

If you're looking for a place where honest advice matters just as much as great craftsmanship, we'd love to welcome you to Dirty Lust – tattoo shop Warsaw.

Because in our opinion, every great tattoo starts with a good conversation.
