Tattoo and pain – should you listen to the opinions of others?

We differ in appearance, age, experience and preferences. We have different tastes. Each of us is different and each of us has different preferences regarding the tattoos we want to have. Therefore, each of us will experience tattooing differently due to the size, style, location of the tattoo and the artist who will make it. Regardless of all these factors, in our opinion, a tattoo that takes up to three or four hours – regardless of the place on the body – can be endured by anyone without any problems. If the pain was unbearable, people would simply not get tattoos. Therefore, there is only one conclusion. You should absolutely not listen to the opinions of others when it comes to feeling pain.

Tattoo pain scale – what is it?

There are many graphics that show where the discomfort will be greatest, but, let's repeat, it still remains an individual matter. Perhaps the place that is generally considered the most painful will turn out to be trouble-free for you.

Tattoo and pain – where does it hurt the most?

The intensity of the pain depends on the part of the body where the tattoo will be performed. There are spaces where the intensity of pain will be minimal, but there are also spaces where you may experience greater discomfort. Theoretically, the intensity of pain is greatest in places covered with a small amount of fatty tissue and in those where the bones are easily palpable. Such body parts include:

  • ribs;
  • elbows and elbow bend;
  • chest;
  • belly;
  • feet;
  • inner part of the arm;
  • neck;
  • head;
  • hands;
  • groin;
  • genitals.

Choosing such a place for your first tattoo doesn't have to be a bad idea. If you plan to get a lot of tattoos, you will appreciate your decision over time. The more tattoos you have, the more difficult tattooing will be, because you already know what the whole process involves and there are still the "most difficult and demanding" places left for tattooing. You will thank yourself for these choices when you are running out of space on your body.

Tattoo and pain – where does it hurt the least?

There are areas on the body where more fat tissue accumulates. In these spots, the tattooing process is less painful. These places include:

  • calves;
  • thighs in front and side;
  • arms;
  • back.

What influences the feeling of pain?

Your attitude

Let's start with the most important thing – practically everything depends on your attitude. If you expect pain, you will experience it. Stress and worrying will not help you. This will only make you unnecessarily nervous and you will show up at the studio with a bad attitude. Stress can also cause unnecessary physiological reactions – body tremors, hypersensitivity and muscle tension. If you don't relax, the pain will be worse. So stay positive! Imagine that everything will go quickly and without any problems and you will enjoy your new decoration.

The discomfort of these few hours is nothing compared to the new creation that will be with you forever. Pain is momentary but glory is eternal!

Tattooing technique

Most depends on the tattoo artist, i.e. on his experience and the technique they have developed over the years. Experience also affects the speed of tattooing! Beginner tattoo artists can make a simple pattern for up to several hours. The same tattoo will take much less time for someone experienced!

Of course, the pattern itself also matters. It depends on whether the tattoo is simple/linear, shaded or colorful. The larger the tattoo, the greater the difference in the time it will take to get it done by an experienced artist. An experienced tattoo artist knows what elements to create to keep them in good shape for years and what should not be done because it will either merge into a stain or disappear over time.

Tattoo location

Think carefully about where you want to have your first tattoo, taking into account what idea you have for yourself. Do you want to have large, coherent compositions on your body or maybe you want to have a lot of small stickers. Don't rely on the pain in a given place because each time it is an individual matter. It's important to think carefully because once a tattoo is done, it's difficult to remove or cover it.

Come well prepared!

Appropriate body preparation for tattooing is as important as your mental attitude. First of all, avoid alcohol and other fun substances a few days before visiting the tattoo studio. Get some sleep. On the day of the tattoo, do not drink coffee or energy drinks because they stimulate circulation. Eat a high-calorie breakfast – calories don't count that day! Take a lot of positive attitude with you and the whole process will go quickly, efficiently and painlessly as you are using the services of proven and experienced tattoo artists!

Getting a tattoo doesn't take a few minutes

Tattooing is an art that takes time. Each needle insertion requires precision! Making large patterns on the body is time-consuming. It's always worth asking how long your studio visit will last. It is best to make an appointment on a day off to avoid unnecessary stress about appointments. The tattoo will stay with you forever, so don't waste your time and money on it!

Ways to reduce unpleasant symptoms during tattooing

Do you have a low pain tolerance? Don't worry, there are ways to reduce its severity!

  • Talk to the tattoo artist if it doesn't interfere with their work – they know many interesting stories. By focusing on the conversation, you will stop paying attention to the pain, which will make it less noticeable.
  • Speak if it hurts – the person doing the tattoo won't mind if you say you want to rest for a while, change your lying position or just have a drink.
